The Digestive System
The children enjoyed a practical lesson investigating The Digestive System. They used a banana and crackers for food that was broken down by orange juice (stomach acid) and water (saliva) in a sealed bag which acted as the stomach. The water mixture came through the tights to show how nutrients, vitamins, proteins, carbohydrates and minerals are absorbed into the body. They then used tights, which acted as the small intestines and pushed the 'food' down into the large intestines (plastic cup) and into a paper cup (rectum) which was the waste.
