Fawbert & Barnard's has an annual admission number of 30 pupils. The school is popular and is always oversubscribed.
All children are admitted full-time at the beginning of the Autumn term. In the first weeks of the term, there is a staggered start for the pupils to enable them to settle in and become familiar with their new surroundings and routines. Parents are informed of these arrangements in their admission letter.
You can apply for a Reception school place at an Essex primary school between 9 November 2020 and 15 January 2021. Please click here for further details.
Open Mornings are held in the Autumn term for children who are due to start school the following September. Normally, you can register your interest in attending one of these by completing and submitting our form on the "contact us" tab above. Although we would love to welcome you to view our school, unfortunately we are unable to do so at the present time.
We have therefore worked hard to present a school video for you to meet some of our staff and pupils and have a virtual tour of our school. We hope this will support you in making your decision. Please click below:
For pupils transferring during the academic year, arrangements can be made to visit the school by appointment with the Headteacher who will be pleased to see parents, show them the school and provide further information when permitted to do so. Please see the virtual tour above in the interim.
Families must make an application for admission to Essex County Council, Planning and Admissions Department. For parents and carers who live in Essex you can apply online using the Essex Online Admission Service at www.essex.gov.uk/admissions where you can find further information.
Parents of new entrants will be invited to bring their children to attend an induction session before starting full-time during the term prior to their admission. This will provide an opportunity for parents and children to see the school, to meet the teacher and to spend some time in the class.
For pupils transferring into the admissions area during any other time in the academic year, parents should contact the Office Manager who will be able to advise you on admission procedures.
Admission Criteria for Fawbert & Barnard's Primary School
There is no guarantee of a place for children living in the priority admission area. In the event of oversubscription places will be allocated using the following criteria in the order given:
- Looked After Children;
- Children of staff at the school
- Children with a sibling attending the school;
- Children living in the priority admission area*;
- Children living within the shortest distance from the school
- Remaining applications.
* Formally known as the catchment area
In the event of oversubscription within any of the above criteria, priority will be determined by straight line distance from home to school, those living closest being given the highest priority.
Notification of place allocations will be given by Essex County Council Planning and Admissions Department and sent before the term of admission. Parents dissatisfied with the decision of Essex County Council made in line with the admissions policy and criteria have a right of appeal to an appeals committee established by the Local Authority who will conduct the appeal.
The school holds a waiting list which will be used should a vacancy occur within the class. You can register your interest with the school after you have received confirmation of your application from Essex County Council. We will hold these until 31 December each year. You are required to update us each term if you still wish to be on the register thereafter.
Please click here to see our admission policy for further information.
